28th April 2024 – No Mow May, Facebook

Join the No Mow May Campaign: Help Conserve Pollinators! ![]()
Did you know that something as simple as delaying your lawn mowing for the month of May can make a huge difference for pollinators? No Mow May aims to encourage people to let spring flowers, such as dandelions, white clover and creeping charlie, in their lawns bloom before mowing, providing essential food sources for bees and other pollinators. Research conducted as part of Plantlife’s annual No Mow May campaign has shown that a simple change in mowing habits can result in ten times more nectar available for pollinators.
How Can You Participate?
Do not mow your garden for the month of May.
Don’t forget to record your participation on the Plantlife website.
Tips for Wildflowers from Plantlife:
Avoid herbicides, fertilizers, and moss killers, as they can harm wildflowers.
Let plants set seed before cutting, allowing them to spread naturally.
Introduce plug plants of native perennial meadow flowers, ideally in the autumn.
Sow seeds of native perennial meadow flowers in patches of prepared soil during autumn. Keep the soil moist until the seeds establish themselves.
