Frequently Asked Questions

What is Climate Change?

Climate change is the long-term shift of temperature, weather patterns, and other environmental conditions caused by natural and human activities. This releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere which causes rising global temperatures.

What is meant by Net Zero?

Net zero means achieving a balance between the amount of greenhouse gases emitted and the amount removed from the atmosphere.

What does sustainability mean?

Sustainability means meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It involves balancing economic, social, and environmental factors to ensure responsible and equitable use of resources.

Why is achieving Net Zero important?

Achieving net zero is important to adhere to the targets set out within the Paris Agreement to hold “the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels” and pursue efforts “to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels”. Overarching these thresholds risk increasing the frequency and intensity of climate change impacts.

Why is local action important?

Individual actions may seem insignificant, but collectively, they lead to systematic change. Local climate action helps build resilient communities and slow down climate change. We all have a responsibility to do our part. “What is an ocean if not a multitude of drops?”

What can I do to combat climate change?
